The Conseil culturel fransaskois has set in motion a project that aims to assist fransaskois visual artists show their work in both French and English-speaking milieus of Saskatchewan. This exhibition entitled Solitaires/Solidaires is now touring in galleries throughout the province and in fransaskois communities.
Showing together for the first time are four fransaskois artists: Anne Brochu Lambert, Liza Gareau Tosh, Jean-Sébastien Gauthier and Michèle Mackasey, and a total of 15 works. Solitaires/Solidaires is a title that seeks to explain the reality of the fransaskois artist creating on the prairie today. It juxtaposes both concepts – that the artist working in a solitary space, necessary in the process, also requires a solidary experience with other artists, especially when language and culture tends to isolate them even more.
